Image Download Salad

You can download Salad as an installer or as a zip archive:

Salad v1.11

Installer for Windows (XP/Vista/2000).

Salad v1.11 (zip)
Unzip and run the software from a USB drive, CD-ROM or wherever you like.
ChangesList of changes for each version.

Salad operates initially as a 30 day demo without any feature limitations whatsoever.  At any time you can convert to the full version by purchasing a license.  Alternatively you can get the Lite version for free by clicking the 'send codes' button on the demo screen.  See the Help file or the Readme file for info on Getting Started.

Please update to CAESAR II 5.10 Build 80207 (or later) in order to avoid a bug in the Data Export Wizard.

  • We recommend that you check for updates after installing and from time to time (Help menu-> Check for Updates), to ensure that you have the latest scripts and tutorials.

Have you tried an earlier version and now want to try out the latest ?  If so, just install the new version, start it up and click on the 'Send codes' button on the license screen.  This will generate an email which you should send off to us to request a demo extension code.

Image Salad Scripts

Scripts are available in either metric or imperial units.  Where no option is given, the script covers either units.  These scripts can be used 'as is' or you can edit them as required.  Unless noted, they require the Full or Demo version to run.

Script:API 610 (metric)   API 610 (imperial)
Screenshot:Screenshot
Last Update:23rd November 2008
Description:

Checks pump nozzle loads to API 610.  You can check every load case at once.  Suction and discharge piping can be in the same or different files.

This script also lets you specify factors which increase the allowables for wind/seismic and or standby cases.  These factors are not in accordance with API610 but are available for use where acceptable to your project and pump vendor.  For instance, WRC 449 suggests that pumps on standby may be able to withstand loads 50% above the limits normally imposed on operating pumps.

Script:AIV (metric)   AIV (imperial)
Screenshot: Screenshot
Last Update:13th April 2008

Description:

High pressure and high flowrate gas pressure letdown valves can generate severe acoustic vibration, potentially causing fatigue failure in a short period of time.  This script carries out an Acoustically Induced Vibration check on your piping system using the Carucci & Mueller / Eisinger method.

The script gives you the ability to check a single line or your entire flare system at once.  Simply pull together a CAESAR II model of the system and provide data for the various valves.  The model doesn't need to be perfect either; providing correct lengths, diameters and wall thicknesses is sufficient.  The script will combine the effects of simultaneously operating valves if applicable.

See Tutorial 3 relating to this script.

Script:Stress Summary
Screenshot: Screenshot
Last Update:

28th September 2008 - Fixed problem with weight deflection check and added ability to work with Z-vertical models.

Description:

Generates a summary of your pipe stress model in Excel format. If you currently spend time entering data into spreadsheets summarising input parameters, maximum stresses etc. for formal calculations, you may appreciate the time and effort you can save with this script.

The script also includes sensibility checks such as 'lifting off supports' and 'excessive sag', which means it can be quite useful to run a summary of early revisions of your calculation that may not require documenting.

Script:Trunnions
Screenshot:Screenshot
Last Update:13th April 2008
Description:

Checks all the trunnions in your pipe stress model in one go, using the Kellogg method.  Salad determines trunnion lengths, loads and orientations, you just need to tell it the trunnion restraint nodes.  Of course you need to model the trunnions in your stress model for this to work.

Script:Restraint Local Loads
Screenshot:Screenshot
Last Update:
13th April 2008
Description:

Outputs a restraint summary report in local co-ordinates.  Useful for models with skewed pipe runs.

Script:API 617 (metric)     API 617 (imperial)
Screenshot:Screenshot
Last Update:
10th June 2008
Description:

Performs an API 617 check on up to 10 load cases at once for a two nozzle machine.  You can specify the nozzle to resolve about and a multiple of API 617 if required.

Script:
Nozzle Loads
Screenshot:
Screenshot
Last Update:
13th April 2008
Description:

Outputs a Nozzle 'Restraint Load Summary' in local co-ordinates relative to a cylindrical vessel.  Useful for a vessel with an off-axis or hill-side nozzle.  Salad determines the vessel longitudinal axis and the nozzle radial axis automatically, assuming you have modelled these in your stress model.  Check out the 'Nozzleload' function in the Help file for further information.

Script:
Line Load
Screenshot:
Screenshot
Last Update:
13th April 2008
Description:

Checks local stresses induced in the pipe wall due to a line load (bare pipe resting on steel) or a point load (bare pipe on round rod).

Script:
Displacement Summary
Screenshot:
Screenshot
Last Update:
13th April 2008
Description:

Provides a displacement summary report for a single node.

Script:
Structural Support List
Screenshot:Screenshot
Last Update:
5th November 2007
Description:
Provides a list of pipe supports in your model requiring structural design, based on vertical and horizontal load thresholds which you specify.  See also Tutorial 2 which goes through the process of building this script.  NOTE: Tutorial 2 causes a problem with some browsers using Acrobat 7 when opened directly in the browser.  To get around this problem, right-click on the above link, choose 'Save Link/Target As' and open the downloaded file.

ImageStandalone Scripts:

These do not require a stress model to operate on, but you should have CAESAR II installed to run these scripts.  Unless noted, these will run with the Lite version of Salad.

Script:Expansion Loop (currently metric only)
Screenshot:Screenshot
Last Update:
13th April 2008
Description:

Estimates stresses and linestop loads for rack piping with an expansion loop.  Uses CAESAR II database to calculate expansion.

Script:
Wall Thk Check (metric)       Wall Thk Check (imperial)
Screenshot:
Screenshot
Last Update:13th April 2008
Description:

Checks pipe wall thickness for pressure hoop stress as per ASME B31.3.  Uses CAESAR II database for Allowable Stress.
